The Turquoise meaning:

In many cultures of the Old and New Worlds the turquoise gemstone has been esteemed for thousands of years as a bringer of good fortune. Turquoise jewellery is often given as a gift, a gemstone of friendship and faithfulness.

Turquoise gemstone

Turquoise is a relatively soft mineral formed from copper phosphate . In Nature, turquoise gemstone occurs in the whole range of hues ranging from white to a powder blue to a sky blue, and from a blue-green to a yellowish green. The most beautiful turquoises, in a splendid light blue, come from gemstone deposits in the north of Iran where there is a high concentration of copper in the soil.  Named in antiquity from French "turquoise" meaning "Turkish"; when trading routes brought Turquoise stone from Persia (Iran) through the Middle East towards Europe via Turkey.

The porous nature of Turquoise makes it more easily affected by solvents. Soaps and detergents, cleaners and oils, even skin oils, cosmetics and perfumes will attack the finish and may alter the colour of turquoise gems. See more on Care of Turquoise.
