Amethyst stone

Amethyst is the purple and most famous and valuable gem variety of the mineral Quartz. Quartz also contains other gemstones such as Citrine, Rose Quartz, and Smoky Quartz.  Amethyst stone is sometimes heat treated to deepen the color, or to transform it into Citrine. Some forms of Amethyst may also change to a light green color upon heat treatment, and such amethyst stones are given the name Prasiolite, or "Green Amethyst". Violet shades of amethyst comes mainly from South America (Brazil and Uruguay) and the deeper purple shade from Africa. < minerals.net >
